Orange Chocolate Mousse

Happy Fiesta Friday everyone! Because I have been sick all week, I almost forgot about the party! Can you believe it?! But, thanks to the lovely Jhuls reminding me, here I am! 🙂 Thankful once again for Angie hosting us at her blog The Novice Gardener! Aren’t her creations amazing?! If you haven’t seen this recent post of hers, you have to check it out! Like I said to her, all I can say is, “Wow!!”

And a big thank you to Prudy and Indira for co-hosting this party! Woohoo!

I am still feeling really bad (sinus stuff I think…horrible headache, etc.), so I knew I needed to bring something simple this week. That is when I thought of mousse! You know me, my first thought was something sweet! 🙂

I, of course, had never made mousse before so I wasn’t totally sure what I was going to use to make it and how much of the ingredients I would use, etc. My main question was whether I could get the consistency right since I don’t use sugar. That is always the adventure when trying to make up a low-glycemic recipe. Fun, Fun, Fun! Truly, I love it!

I ended up using only 5 simple ingredients: coconut milk, cocoa, pure orange extract, honey, and orange zest. And it took me all of 10 minutes. The taste? Great and refreshing!  The consistency? Actually just right!

Very Simple, just as I had hoped. Simple, yet really yummy! And notice the adorable bowl I am serving this mousse in….found these on clearance a while back and forgot I had them until tonight! Aren’t they great!?

  2. Love the new name texture and you so organized I’ve yet to do my post yikes!

My son hates coconut otherwise I would try this. I get away with small amounts but don’t think I would with this unfortunately, looks good though xx

  3. Mmm that looks delicious! It seems like we both had the same idea in terms of using coconut whipped cream! How did I only recently learn about it?! I’m sorry you were sick all week – nasty colds make you not want to even think of food, isn’t it? By the way, I love those bowls! Cute and whimsical and it just makes me want to have dessert right now! 🙂

    • Thank you so much Indira! The thick part of the coconut milk is so great and you can use it instead of things like heavy cream in recipes….so much healthier. I love it! I am so glad you have found out about it! I’ll have to hop over and see what you made! Thanks for loving my bowls…I think they are so fun!

      • I totally agree. Most times, if I see a recipe with cream, I skip it immediately. I don’t need the extra calories. Glad you brought this to FF, I now have another use for the coconut cream I have stored in my freezer!

  5. I really can’t believe you forgot all about the Fiesta – I blame it on the sinus stuff! 😦 But I am really glad that you came afterall and brought this easy and simple, yet delicious and healthy dessert! You should teach me one day on how to eat healthy! 😛

    • I am SO glad you reminded me! I didn’t even know what day it was yesterday…yep, definitely blame it on the sinus stuff! Hey, guess what I am eating right now for breakfast?! My orange chocolate mousse! Hehehe. 🙂 I told Nancy that since it is filled with good ingredients I figured it was okay to do that. 🙂 I’m telling you Jhuls….you would never know this was healthy!

    • You are so sweet Prudy! Truly, you are! 🙂 Your words always ooze so much kindness and encouragement! I so appreciate your words!
Starting to feel a little better I think…but still not great. Yes, that sinus stuff just hangs on for quite a while, doesn’t it? If you lived closer, I would take any food you wanted to make me! Your food is always so yummy! Thanks Prudy!

  9. Hi Lori, The pictures of your mousse are amazing! It looks wonderful. I can’t believe you got it to that thick consistency with coconut milk. I have never tried that before. Sounds like a recipe I need to make as I love chocolate mousse. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

    • Thanks Shari! I could hardly believe it either! As long as you refrigerate the coconut milk ahead of time and use only the thick stuff, it is just like using heavy whipping cream but much healthier! 🙂 I hope you give it a try! I buy the coconut in cans in the Asian aisle of our grocery store.
