Image

I felt so encouraged when Nancy over at Feasting with Friends gave this award to me! A little bit about Nancy:

  • She is great!
  • She is so faithful to stop by, read what you have written (even if it is a lot πŸ˜‰ ), and leave an encouraging comment. I always look forward to seeing her stop by my blog!
  • She is an excellent cook, coming up with creative things I never would have thought about! Love it!
  • She is giving of her time…to her family as she cooks and loves them…and to all of us who she shares her recipes with and encourages on a regular basis!

So, what is The Beautiful Blogger Award? From what I understand, it is an honor bestowed by fellow bloggers to show how much they love reading your blog and appreciate the beauty in your words. A big huge thank you to you Nancy for loving my blog and finding beauty in it! You put a big smile on my face! πŸ˜€

Feeling Encouraged :-D

First of all, thanks for your grace to all of you who have nominated me for awards recently….yes, I am a little behind! πŸ™‚

Receiving awards are always a great encouragement to me! I still sometimes can’t believe I have only been cooking for about 3 months! I also sometimes can’t believe that my hatred of cooking has turned into a love of cooking! πŸ˜€ All that said, these awards encourage me as I continue down this adventurous road! Thank you for blessing me and spurring me on!

  5. I hate the color maroon….I mean, I really hate it!

jnjnj

JoJo was so kind to nominate me for this! I really enjoy this sweet girl! Her blog, The Wobbly Way of Life (I totally love the name, by the way) is about her processing life in the form of writing. I love reading what she says and what she is thinking about! She is very engaging! Please drop by, read a bit, and say hi to her! I know it would be an encouragement!

Okay, The Rules:

  1. Include the Sunshine Award icon in your post and/or on your blog
  2. Link to the blogger who nominated you
  3. Answer 10 questions about yourself
  4. Nominate 10 other bloggers to receive the award
  5. Link to your nominees and let them know you nominated them
  6. Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer

The Questions JoJo gave me to Answer:

1. If you could have a part of the day frozenΒ for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?

I wouldn’t want it frozen. I feel like I would miss out on all the things God has planned for my life. Whether fun, easy, delightful, difficult, challenging….I wouldn’t want to miss out on them. All the things I walk through are part of what has made me who I am today and cause me to grow.

2. What does your style say about you?

This is just my opinion of course (LOL), but I think it says that I am fun, spunky, approachable, and real.

3. Flats or heels?

This question is kind of hard for me, because it makes me think of high heels (which I definitely don’t like to wear), or flat dress shoes (which I also don’t like. ) πŸ™‚ So, I will say this: I love flipflops (flats) and boots (with a small heel.) So I guess in that case, both. πŸ˜€

4. Would you rather be the nose or the ears? Why?

Ears all the way! I love spending time with people, listening to them, hearing their hearts, finding out about their stories.

5.Β How old were you when you started using the internet?

I’m pretty sure I was in college, because that is when we first got a computer. I think that shows my age a bit. πŸ˜‰

6. Have you ever wanted to be someone else when you were young? Explain.

Sure. I was very insecure growing up…wasn’t comfortable in my own skin or confident about who I was. I cared way too much about what others thought. I wish I knew then what I know now, but I guess that is all part of growing up.

7. If you wereΒ to be stranded on the desert and had only one type ofΒ dessert, what would it be?

Only One JoJo?! Ugh! πŸ™‚ Dark Chocolate Chip Almond Balls made with almond flour, honey, coconut oil, chocolate chips, and almond extract…I LOVE this and could eat it every day!

8. What’s your ideal weekend?

It would probably be going away to a bed and breakfast with my hubby out in the woods…laughing together, exploring, having fun, talking, reading, and relaxing!

9. What do you like most about fruits?

Their sweet taste! They are good for you and yet they taste like dessert! πŸ™‚

10. What do you hope to accomplish through your blog?

I hope to encourage others in their own cooking adventures, to get people excited about being in the kitchen, to show people creative ways to eat delicious food without using all the refined sugar, and to be real with my own adventure in order that it may be a blessing to others.

My Nominees: These are all blogs that I enjoy following and haven’t had a chance to nominate before. Please check them out if you are not already familiar with them!

For the nominees, here are the 10 questions for you to answer:

  1. How old were you when you began cooking?

  3. What did you want to be when you grew up?
  4. Who/what inspires you?

Loyalty…..love it! :-)

award-dragon-from-mark

Is that a little kitty sitting on that dragon’s tail? πŸ™‚

Last week, the super sweet Nancy from Feasting with Friends, gave me this fun award! I had never received the Dragon’s Loyalty Award before, so I was super excited. I love the meaning behind it…it is for those who visit your blog often, like your posts, and leave comments. I love this because I love getting to “love on people”, as I often call it, so to know that people are feeling cared for is super exciting!

The irony is that Nancy herself should get this award over and over….she is so quick to check out a post I have written and is full of encouraging words! Not just on my blog, but on others too! She brings smiles and encouragement to so many of us….I am so glad to know her! Thanks Nancy for being such a bright light in this blogging world! She says this about herself, “Cooking is rarely a chore for me. I thrive on trying new recipes and creating my own.” This is a woman who loves to cook, especially when she gets to do it for others! What a blessing she is….here online…and in her own home! If you haven’t seen this, look at the funnel cakes she made last week! I have never heard of anyone making their own from scratch….so impressed!

Then, just yesterday both Chef Jullianna at Foodie on Board and Apsara at Eating Well Diary gave me this award as well….I am definitely feeling all the bloggy love! πŸ™‚ This is the part about blogging I never expected…I never knew I would meet so many wonderful people and get connected with them! I never knew all these people would be such a great encouragement to me and an inspiration! I love it!

Chef Julianna is so creative….just look at this creation of hers! I am always looking forward to seeing what she makes! The dishes she creates are truly gourmet! And Apsara, she is a vegetarian…and though I am not, I would definitely eat her meals! πŸ™‚ Look at this amazing cake she made! Wow! Thank you Julianna and Aspara for this award and for the inspiration you are in your cooking!

(Nancy, Julianna, and Apsara- please know you would be on my nomination list if you hadn’t nominated me! Thank you!)

One of the rules for this award is that I need to share 7 facts about myself. Okay, I have shared some facts before, so let’s see if I can come up with 7 new facts. πŸ™‚

  1. I have a masters degree in Divinity…Otherwise known as an M.Div. We girls there at seminary getting the degree called ourselves MDivas. πŸ™‚ What is this degree? It means I took Hebrew and Greek, lots of Bible classes, etc. My hubby has the same degree….we went back to school after having been out for quite a while and we took all our classes together. πŸ™‚ I always say it is the longest masters degree ever….most take 2 years, ours took 4. Loved it! It was so special because we were one of two couples in our class of about 100 people who did the degree together and got to walk on stage and get hooded together. This was 3 years ago:Image
  2. As you might have noticed in the above picture, I had braces as an adult. (Due to jaw problems). I have only been without braces for a little over 10 months.
  3. You think my hair is long? Well I used to have super short spikey hair!Β  Here is a collage of some of my hairstyles over the years since hubby and I have been married. The length of my hair now is just a little longer than it was when we got married. Image
  4. Growing up we had about 20 cats…..before you freak out…..we lived in the country and they were all outdoor cats. πŸ™‚
  5. When I was a young kid I lived in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
  6. I used to take karate for about a year…I stopped when we moved 8 months ago because the system of karate I do is not found here, so I would have to start over with a different system. Not sure yet what I will do. A fun fact about this is that I can and have flipped 250 + pound guys. πŸ™‚
  7. My hubby and I both absolutely hate coffee.

So, now it is my turn to give this award away! Yay! This is another rule of the award…one which I love! To the following bloggers, thanks for how you stop by often, encourage me, and bless me with kind words! This award is to say “Thank you” for your loyalty! (I normally write more about each of you, but I have been sick all week and am running out of energy from this already long post. πŸ™‚ ) Just know that I appreciate you greatly!

Congrats to each of you!

And one final rule of the award…go tell the people you nominated that you nominated them! Okay, off to your blogs I go, I go! πŸ˜‰

One Lovely Blog Award!

one-lovely-blog-award1

I was super surprised and super excited to get this award from Justine back in the beginning of April, a fellow blogger who you can find over at It’s a Lonely Place. I have really enjoyed getting to know Justine. She is a woman who struggles with chronic pain, has a great passion for life, has such a fun sense of humor, and is a gifted writer!Β  Thank you so much for your super kind words Justine, and for this “lovely” award (pun intended πŸ˜‰ !) Warm fuzzies Justine, warm fuzzies! πŸ™‚Β  I am glad to have met you on here!

  3. I am a softy for all animals….I even cried and prayed that God would save a squirrel that some people put a trap up to kill in our attic.Β  No, this wasn’t when I was a kid; this was just a year or so ago…lol. Happy to say the squirrel survived! πŸ™‚ My favorite of all animals though happens to be our adorable kitty…Image
  4. My favorite flower is a gerber daisy, thus this pot on our back porch…Image
  5. Even though I hated cooking and never did it before 2 1/2 months ago, I collected aprons for years. This fact has come in very handy now that I do love to cook! πŸ™‚

  2. Dimple at Shivaay Delights….surely you know this sweet woman? If not, you will want to! She has a passion for cooking that oozes from her blog, and boy does she cook some creative stuff! She is also such an encouragement to so many of us fellow food bloggers…thanks for that Dimple! She is lovely, and so is her blog!
  3. Jhuls at The Not so Creative Cook... A lovely woman….I love her enthusiasm for cooking, people, laughter, cupcakes, and spreading award love around! πŸ™‚ She is always giving me a good laugh…I enjoy her!
  4. Nancy at Feasting with Friends… Nancy’s loveliness doesn’t just come out in her cooking, but every time she visits my blog (or another’s blog.) She is always so quick to stop by and give you encouragement, and she has a great sense of humor!
  5. Joanna at Food Gurly…Lovely food blog & woman…another fast friend on here. She loves to cook, and is quick to give you a smile and a kind word!
  6. Ngan at Ngan made it… Ngan is lovely in her creativeness, her funniness, and her sweetness! I am really enjoying getting to know here and seeing all her lovely recipes!
  7. Lina at Strictly Delicious…Lina’s love for cooking and her excitement about it are lovely indeed! So is her really sweet and fun personality! She is restricted by a lot of different allergies, but you would never know it from her great recipes!

Thanks again Justine, and congrats to all of you!

The Sunshine Award- Take 2 :-)

images

The sweet Jhuls sent another award my way! Wow…and I LOVE the Sunshine Award! πŸ™‚ Even the name of it puts a smile on my face! I am feeling the bloggy ❀ Jhuls…thank you! πŸ™‚ I am still in much doubt that this Not So Creative Cook is really not creative! Just look at her most recent post…delcious chiffon cupcakes! Yum, yum, yum! She was very kind and decided to swap one with me for one of my cupcakes! πŸ™‚

She asked me these questions:

Β Β Β Β Β Β  1. What food/ingredient(s) you always make sure you have? Almond Flour, Honey, Kale, Avocados, Dark Chocolate Chips, Eggs, Olive Oil, Fresh Basil, Fresh Cilantro, Almond Milk, Coconut Milk, Black Beans, Fresh Garlic.
Β Β Β Β Β Β  2. What is your favorite dish to cook? A new dish! That might sound funny, but I love cooking something I haven’t yet created…something I get to be creative with and come up with myself!
Β Β Β Β Β Β  3. What is you favorite breakfast food? Now that I eat low-glycemic I would have to say eggs….eggs made lots of different ways with lots of different ingredients and spices.
Β Β Β Β Β Β  4. What is/are your other interest/s aside from cooking and baking? I love doing graphic art! I can animate, and love making eyes blink, cats tails move, an animal jump up and down, someone wink, etc. I just got to make name tags for the food at a baby shower…the theme being “under water” and the theme colors being blue, green, and white. I drew all the little guys myself, and got to create the backgrounds, etc. Here is a pic of them:

Image

Β Β Β Β Β  5. What is your favorite comfort food? Dark chocolate with orange or almond chocolate chip balls.

6. What is the first thing you’ve cooked or baked? Probably plain ole scrambled eggs. πŸ™‚

7. What is you favorite thing from your kitchen? Okay, you can name three. My garlic press, my many cutting boards (sounds like a simple answer, I know, but I use them daily and love them…got to have my cutting boards πŸ™‚ ), and my awesome new sturdy rubber spatulas my hubby got me (after breaking 2 of our other spatulas. ❀ ).

8. What is the latest thing you bought for your kitchen? This wonderful cupcake carrier!

Image

9. Who inspired you to make your blog? Two friends of mine who were excited about my new cooking adventures and wanted to challenge me and push me onward. Here is a picture of me with one of them:

Image

My dear friend, Susan, has been my biggest encouragement to cook….I spent one day with her cooking and that’s how all my cooking adventures began! She prays for me and is always encouraging me in my journey of “creating beauty in the kitchen.” So grateful for her!

10. Any advice to other new bloggers? Just enjoy the process, and remember why you are doing what you are doing. Don’t get caught up in numbers and in how many people like your posts or follow. It is so easy to start caring too much about that and forget why it is you are blogging in the first place!

Onto my favorite part….nominating fellow bloggers for this award! πŸ™‚

  1. If you haven’t already, meet Pang! I recently found her blog Circa Happy …Not only is her food beautiful and delicious looking, but she is so full of excitement and energy! I am really enjoying her! Please go check out her blog!

  3. Conscientious Cookie‘s blog focuses on vegan and gluten free food. She is a self-taught baker who has a passion for allergy awareness and helping others with regard to that.
  4. I love all things “thoughtful,” so it seems natural that I would love the name of this blog: The Thoughtful Plate! Maci, as well, is a self-taught baker and cook. She seems really fun and well rounded- she playes guitar, like jazz, loves taking picture, and loves Jesus. Her recipes look SO good…go check them out!
  5. Kelly in the Kitchen…I love that she uses unprocessed, whole, natural foods whenever she can! Yes, me too! She seeks to make her food both taste great and be great for you!
  6. The Cheergerm & the Silly Yak– She cooks gluten-free for her husband, but still sometimes bakes normally for her kids. So, you will find a mixture of recipes on her site. I like how she describes her experimenting with gluten-free cooking, “It has been and still is at times, a tumultuous journey, filled with success and some rather spectacular failures.”
  7. Meet Serena at Rustic Plate. She is an Italian woman with a deep passion for flavors and cooking. And I love this little fact about her: She has 27 wooden spoons! πŸ™‚
  8. The Seasoned Traveler– Her recipes are inspired by cuisine throughout the world and I love that she incorporates herbs and spices into her cooking. Take one look at her pictures and you will get hungry! πŸ™‚
  9. Sneaky Veg– Mandy is a mother whose mission is to get her children to eat more fruit and vegetables. I am sure you mom’s can relate! Her recipes look delicious, and she definitely manages to sneak those veggies in! πŸ™‚
  10. I want to introduce you to Jessica at Cake Pop Adventures. She is a new blogger who has a passion for cake pops! I have always wanted to try one, so I am excited to see all the different ones she will continue to create. Drop by and say hi to this new foodie blogger!

Liebster- Take 2

liebsteraward-copy

Jhuls from The Not So Creative Cook was so kind to think of my blog and send this my way! She writes this about herself, “I am just an ordinary person who has an extra-ordinary passion for cooking, baking, eating and now blogging!” I love that! Please go check out her blog…she just recently posted her 100th recipe…wow!

I didn’t realize you could get the Liebster Award more than once! A part of me feels really weird about accepting this twice, but on the other hand, it gives me the wonderful opportunity of letting you know about other great bloggers out there, who you may not be familiar with yet. That excites me, and that’s the part I love!

Here are the questions that Jhuls gave to me to answer:

  1. What is your favorite dessert and why? At this point, I would say a muffin or cupcake made with almond flour that involves chocolate and orange or chocolate and almond flavors. Those two flavor combinations are my absolute favorite!
  2. What is one weird fact about you? I love toads. πŸ™‚
  3. What are your top three favorite books? I LOVE reading, so this will be tough to narrow. These are the three I think of off the top of my head because they have been very impactfull in my life: The Praying Life by Paul Miller, Counterfeit Gods by Tim Keller, and A Grace Disguised by Gerald Sittser.
  4. If you had the ability to invent a new kitchen tool that would suit your needs, what would it be? Well, since I make such a mess in the kitchen all the time, it would have to be some sort of thing that could clean up after me, or help me avoid the mess in the first place. πŸ™‚
  5. What is your favorite music artist and genre? I enjoy all sorts of music…I feel myself drawn to the fun beat of a lot of pop songs. My favorite though is Christian music…two artists who I have recently been introduced to have become new favorites…Dustin Kensrue, along with Keith and Kristyn Getty. Their words are rich and meaningful and I love the sound of their music.
  6. Why did you start your blog?Β  To share my experiences of learning to cook, and growing to love to cook.
  7. What’s the last movie that made you cry? I think it was Hunger Games 2: Catching Fire
  8. Chocolate Chip Cookies or Brownies? This question is unfair…do I really have to choose?! πŸ˜‰ Forced to answer I would say chocolate chip cookies.
  9. Do you collect anything? Several things: Books, scarves, fun socks, and toads. πŸ™‚
  10. What is your favorite color? Red or Turquoise

Okay, now to the part I am so excited about…nominating these blogs below! Congrats to each one of you! I didn’t just randomly pick your blog, I did so for purposeful reasons, like the fact I enjoy your blog and want others to know about it! πŸ™‚

  1. It’s a Lonely Place – You may know Justine from her other blog, but did you also know that she had this blog that chronicles her journey with chronic pain? This is a topic I am very passionate about, having dealt with it myself and watched others I love dearly deal with it. I am super passionate about helping others learn how to interact with people who have chronic pain and illness, and by checking out her blog I think that would be a great place to get a feel for what its like to wrestle with daily, or to meet another person who can relate with what you are already going through.
  2. Miss Beretta IllustrationΒ  – If you haven’t already, meet Marielle! She is a very gifted artist who just recently did some designing for Prudy’s blog, Butter, Basil and Breadcrumbs! I have really enjoyed scrolling through her past posts and seeing her amazing work!
  3. Cook AZ I Do – Shari’s food blog quickly caught my attention when she mentioned that she loves Mexican food and dessert! “Yes! Me too!” πŸ™‚ She has some wonderful recipes, and I love her desire to glorify God and to encourage others! Again, I can say, “Yes! Me too!” πŸ™‚
  4. Strictly Delicious– I recently came across this fellow food blogger who, in trying to live as allergy free as possible, has had to become very creative in what she cooks. Hers is definitely a site to check out!
  5. My Life of Spice – I love Jessi’s tagline, “Because Healthy Doesn’t Have to Be Plain!” Yes, yes, yes!
  6. Cooking Cove – I really like how Chad thinks of cooking as art. From what I have seen so far, he is a very creative cook!
  7. A Colorful Palate –Β  I often find myself drawn to what people name their blogs, or the taglines they use. Jen’s blog is one of those for me. I love how she writes, “adding a little zest to everyday things.” Yes! I want to do that too! πŸ™‚ She cooks gluten and dairy free…go check her site out!
  8. Cocina de Cella– Marcella is another fellow food blogger who is sharing her adventures of learning how to cook! Her recipes are gluten-free, and she loves Mexican food and dessert! Yum!
  9. Coconut Contentment -Emily is a church planters wife…I felt drawn to her since my hubby and I have done church planting in the past. She has been doing the Paleo diet due to health issues, and she enjoys creating delicious meals and sharing them on her blog.
  10. Your Neighbor’s Kitchen – Nicole’s recipes are delicious…both in the way they sound and the way they look! She is a new blogger who cooks gluten free, and definitely seems to be gifted!

Here are your questions to answer:

  1. Coffee of Tea?
  2. What are your favorite colors to decorate with?
  3. Do you have a favorite t.v. show? What is it?

The Sunshine Award…Bringing Sunshine to My Day! :-)

Image

I love sunshine….reading a good book in it, taking a nap in it, watching my cat lay in it, seeing it stream in through my windows! And I also really, really love the idea of bringing a bit of sunshine to those around me, which is why I happily accept this award from Lauzan over at The Veggy Side of Me! Please go check out her blog, which she describes as “deliciously green!” I love that! Thank you so much Lauzan! Like I mentioned to you already, you are spreading more sunshine with your nomination! Thanks for brightening my day! πŸ™‚

Here are my questions to answer:

1. Why did you start blogging?

I began cooking (and enjoying it) for the first time in my life and taking lots of pictures and posting them on Facebook. Two friends of mine (you know who you are πŸ™‚ ), both encouraged me to start a blog about my adventures. This was never in my plans, but here I am!

2. Sweet or Savoury?

This is really hard! Since I have to choose, I will say “sweet,” but boy does this girl love some “Savory” as well!

3. If you were to go on any reality TV programme, what would it be and why?

The Voice! This is my hubby and I’s most favorite show! Yes, I sing, and absolutely love it. No, I am not a good enough singer to actually be on this show. πŸ™‚ I love the way the coaches choose based on voice alone and not on looks. I also love the way they get in the lives of their team and actually coach them and build relationships with them.

4. What was the last thing you Googled?

I was in the middle of making cauliflower soup (I had made up the recipe) and wanted to know if what I was doing made any sense at all, so I googled “Cauliflower Soup.” Not sure googling helped. πŸ™‚

5. Night In or Night Out?

Night in! Though I love going out to eat and to movies and such, I love being home! Give me my hubby, my kitty, some warm tea, some dark chocolatey goodness, a good movie or game, some candles burning, and I am a happy camper! πŸ™‚

6. What has been your favorite blog post to write?

Orange Dark Chocolate Chip Muffins with Chocolate Orange Sauce! This was one of my first recipes that I experimented with and came up with myself, it contains some of my most favorite tastes, and I absolutely love these muffins!!

7. What’s the one thing you never leave home without?

I’ll admit it….my cell phone πŸ™‚

8. Where would you most like to travel to?

I have always wanted to go to Scotland, but I think I am going to have to say the Czech Republic. My hubby visited there and almost lived there, and he has always wanted to show it to me. I’d love to make his heart happy by going there!

9. If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Ummm…is it weird to say that I don’t want a super power?! I have a hard enough time reminding myself that I am not the “savior” when it comes to family and friends who are hurting….having a super power would just increase my need to try to rescue everyone, and the amount of times a day I said to myself, “I am not the savior, Jesus is” would probably increase drastically! πŸ™‚

10. What can we expect to find from your blog in the future?

Lots more experimenting and coming up with my own low-glycemic (and often gluten-free) recipes, pictures of the food of course, and occasional behind the scenes stories of all the craziness that goes on in the kitchen when I cook :-).

  • Lovingly Pressed – Please check out her site if you didn’t when I nominated her for the Liebster! (Another award for you Emily! πŸ™‚ ) I already mentioned in the Liebster award what I love about her and her blog, but I would like to add this: Matt 5:14-16, “You are a the light of the world, A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (These verses are why I want to nominate you Emily…you DO let your light shine before men, glorifying your Father in heaven!)
  • Food Gurly – If you are gluten free and need recipes and ideas, this “gurly” is for you! (Can you handle another award my friend? The same thing I said about Emily above, holds true for you as well. Your light shines brightly in your openness about your faith, and in the way you encourage others!)

  • Fixing My Fear of Flavor – I love this blog, because I can totally relate! Similar to my story, this is a woman who is learning to cook, learning she loves it, and learning to be creative with it and enjoy rich flavors! Please go visit her site!
