The Before & After

I love my husband! There are so many reasons why I think he is so great, but here is one of them:  He goes with the flow as I make a complete mess in the kitchen! He doesn’t gripe at me about it, or banish me from this room I now love so much. 🙂

I don’t mean to make a mess…really I don’t. But it never fails. I will be cutting an avocado and it will fall on the floor. Or I will be pouring some flour and somehow it ends up in plenty of places besides the bowl. And you all know what happens when I use honey! My hubby has been witness to this…I think he just sweetly feels much compassion for me.

All that to say, I have been cleaning….and I mean spring cleaning. I scrubbed, I washed, I mopped, I organized…you name it. In order to fully appreciate that I have spent at least 5 -6 hours cleaning the kitchen, here are a few before pics. I wish I had more!

Tomatoes and onions on the floor

Red quinoa on the floor…everywhere

I think this is tapioca flour….I don’t keep it in that container you see there, so it certainly shouldn’t be on the outside of it! 🙂

Okay, here are the “after” pics….”after” 5 or 6 hours that is 😉 …

I am so excited about this! I found a basket in our house and used it to organize all my flours and other ingredients that I use daily!

What I am most thrilled about is that this is a total surprise to my hubby! He gets home tonight from being out of town and I really wanted to do something to bless him!

Now you know why I have not been on my blog…I have been so busy cleaning. I just texted my mom and told her that I don’t think I have ever worked this hard in such a short period of time! 🙂 Besides the kitchen, I spent hours in my hubby’s home office cleaning, shredding, organizing, and filing. I have thoroughly cleaned every bathroom, even all the rugs. I have swept and mopped 5 different floors, vacuumed the entire house, dusted all the furniture, cleaned the dining room and living room, and even killed spiders….ugh!!

And through it all, I have just felt so happy to do it! (No, I don’t always feel happy about cleaning. 😉 ). It just feels so good to know my hubby will come home to such a clean house! Makes my heart happy!

Now if only I could get better at not making such a mess when I cook…. 😉

  1. What a wonderful hubby you have! Mine is the same, he lets me run the kitchen how I like and then just walks around the mess I make. Love. 🙂 I must commit to a deep Spring cleaning also. You’ve inspired me Lori! Oh, and once, I spilled a cup of quinoa on the stove top, and all those little granules fell into the crevices of the stove and under the lid. That was not a fun night. Happy cooking (now that the cleaning is done!).

    • Thanks Ngan! Sounds like we both have great hubbies! That’s fun that I inspired you! Boy, my body sure feels sore today after cleaning this whole house so thoroughly…hehehe. Oh, quinoa all over the stove top….I can just picture it! No, not a fun night at all!

  2. So that’s where you’ve been hiding! Your kitchen looks fantastic! What a wonderful surprise for your hubby. And how funny that you took before and after pictures. I love how much character there is in the “before” shots. They are so very you, Lori!! 😀

  3. Haha! Just when did you cleaned your kitchen, Lori? I just spent hours and hours of cleaning on Saturday and I was so happy that I did the cleaning for more than 4 hours and did the ironing after that. Well, it’s fun! 🙂

After seeing these photos, I think we really make a good tandem. 😀

    • Oh Jessi….that is too funny! I checked the link out and I am glad I am not the only one who needs one of these! Hehehe! My hubby just came up with a recent solution for me which has been working well…but I have this dispenser bookmarked just in case! 😉 Thanks!

    • Thanks Justine! Well, it looked MUCH worse than the photos show…I just didn’t take enough pictures! I won’t go into too many details or I might embarrass myself…hehehe.
Thank you for your sweet words about my food!!

  4. How ironic…I just spent 4 hours cleaning the oven, the refrigerator and the pantry! Doesn’t it feel fabulous when it’s done? Half of me doesn’t want to cook for a week now, as I don’t want to dirty it up again. 😉 As for cleaning the rest of the house…where might I find all of that energy you mustered up?

    • Jhuls did too Nancy! It must have been a cleaning type weekend! 🙂 You are so right, it does feel so great when it is all done! My body on the other hand? Really sore! 😉 I don’t normally have that much energy and obviously am not in good enough shape to clean for days on end, as my body is letting me know each moment today. 🙂

  5. Looks like we have all been doing a little cleaning (or a lot). I just did the same thing! Only I had help…hubs and I cleaned two bathrooms, the living room/dining area and the kitchen Friday and Saturday. It had been building up for a little bit as I haven’t been feeling all that well. I have to do it all when I am feeling good so it doesn’t get awful!! 🙂

  6. Lol it is almost like my kitchen (though at the moment I am still in the “before” phase” of it lol funny thing is with the amount of stuff I cook and prep I can spend part of an afternoon or evening cleaning it up all nice and within 24 hours it may be back to square one.

  7. What a great post! I am also glad to know I’m not the only one to make messes in the kitchen. Your floor sure looks beautiful. I bet your husband was so happy. I agree with you the trick would be to clean as I go, but have never mastered that concept!:) Thanks for sharing!
