Dragon’s Loyalty Award From Some Very Loyal People Themselves!

award-dragon-from-mark

Dear Sarah and Chitra- I apologize for taking so long to write this post. I want you to know that your giving me the Dragon’s Loyalty Award means a lot and that I definitely haven’t forgotten about it!

I love this award because it is about community. It is about caring for one another and encouraging one another as we visit each others blogs, leaving likes and comments. I am honored that you, Sarah & Chitra, consider me as one of these people.

Sarah @ Sarah’s Kitchen. Sarah is sweet. She is excitable. She uses a lot of smiley faces…I love that. She is brave in the kitchen…check out her first time at baking bread. She is so friendly. She has a passion for cakes. Isn’t this one so creative?!

Chitra @ Chitra’s Healthy Kitchen. She makes me smile. She introduces me to new food. Kale falafel…I want to try this! She is full of kind words. Did I mention she makes me smile?! Big smiles too. 😀 Her own creativity spurs my own. Almond and curry leaves chutney…yes, I feel spurred on!

A big thanks Sarah and Chitra!!!

The rules for this award are simple…give 7 facts about yourself, thank the person(s) who nominated you, nominate bloggers, and let them know you nominated them. I can do that! 😉

Facts about Me:

  1. I grew up in the country
  2. I’ve read almost every Hardy Boy book
  3. Roses are my least favorite flowers
  4. I know how to flip a 200+ pound guy
  5. I love anything that is fleece
  6. I walk around with a 50 ounce mug of water and drink several a day

My Signature2

You can also find me here on Pinterest, Facebook, or Instagram.

Out of the Mouths of My Mom & Nephew :-)

Have you ever heard of someone doing a guest post for an award? Well, now you have! 😉 I thought it would be fun for you to hear my mom and nephew’s take on me…who am I kidding, I was interested in hearing it too! 😀 Hehehe!
I love these two, and as you can tell from the picture they really love each other as well! They both bring much laughter and joy into my life! Look at this cute picture I just came across today of my nephew when he was a tiny little guy… ❤ it!!
But before you hear from them, I want to say a big thanks to a fellow foodie blogger. I was so honored to get the Quintet of Radiance Award from Jess at Sprinkles and sugarplums! This is one very talented woman! At the age of 17 she not only loves to bake and cook, but she is a ballet dancer! (Jess, when I was your age I didn’t know how to or even want to cook! I’m impressed! And as far as dancing….I still can’t do that! 😉 )
If you are interested in drooling for a little bit, check out these awesome Pineapple Pancakes Jess just made! What a fantastic combination of flavors! Or how about her Strawberry Lemon cake?! Can you say, “Yummy?!”
Thanks Jess for the encouragement you have brought me in passing this award my way! Smiling over here!

  1. Display the logo in a post.
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back
  3. Using the alphabet, describe yourself in a word or phrase.

So sweet of Chitra from Chitra’s Healthy Kitchen to nominate me for some awards! Chitra is a newer bloggy friend of mine, but right from the start she has been such a faithful reader, and full of encouragement! I love that her focus is “recipes for healthy living!” And she is always introducing me to new and delicious looking foods like her Cornmeal Upma! Thank you so much Chitra! And if it wasn’t sweet enough already that she gave me The Versatile Blogger award, she also blessed me with The Wonderful Team Member Readership Award! I am glad to be considered a part of your team Chitra, as one of your faithful bloggy followers!

versatile-award

Just for fun, I looked up the word “versatile” and here were some synonyms I found…

  • Resourceful
  • Adaptable
  • Skilled
  • Talented
  • Varied

So now that you know that ;-), here are the rules:

  • Put the Versatile picture in your post
  • Link to the blogger who nominated you
  • Give 7 facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 people

7 more facts about me?! I suppose you would like them to be new things as well, huh? 🙂 Fasten your seat belts, here we go…

  1. Though I can’t drink it any longer, one of my favorite drinks ever is sweet tea! And I’m talking about the kind that you brew with the sugar in it for hours!
  2. I was a tomboy growing up
  3. I have wanted to get a nose ring for years
  4. One of my favorite colors to paint my toenails is black, though they are currently dark grey 🙂
  5. I love going to plays
  6. I used to love the smell of gasoline….weird, I know.
  7. I tend to be very rulesy….which is why I feel a bit bad about the rule I am about to break. 😉

Because I have gotten this award before, rather than giving it to 15 other people, I am going to give it to a few particular bloggers who challenge me to be versatile. These ladies I have listed below have introduced me to so many new things that I am so grateful for! They have opened my eyes to foods and spices that I didn’t even know existed! Thanks ladies!

My Nominees:

wonderful-team-member-readership-award

When I think of what it means to be a team member some of the first thoughts that come to mind are: supportive, encouraging, and someone who stands by you. A team wouldn’t be a team without all of its members!

The rules are simple!

  1. Just give the award to all the people you wish to (at least 14)
  2. Mention the person who gave it to you, and
  3. Don’t forget to include a picture of the Award

I recently gave many of you this award….I am so grateful for all of you!  This time I am going to pick a few new people who have started following my blog and have jumped right in: reading, commenting, and liking.

My nominees:

Congrats to all of you! As I often say, may these awards encourage you as you continue on your blogging adventures!

I would love to give this to so many of you, including all of the ladies Jhuls already gave it to! 😉 My nominees…

Most Influential Blogger Award

doncharisma-org-most-influential-blogger-award-woman

I felt super honored when Arl at Arl’s World gave me this award! She thinks I am influential? Me?! The newbie both to cooking and to this blogosphere?! Wow! Huge, Huge compliment Arl! I almost don’t know what to say…

I think this is the very first comment I ever received from Arl, “I don’t know how I have missed all these lovely, yummy recipes of yours! Everyone I look at is something I would love to eat. I am now following so I do not miss anymore of them. I am glad you no longer hate cooking! :-)” As you can tell from what she wrote to me, she is so super sweet! And she really doesn’t miss my recipes…she often stops by, which I am super grateful for!

If you don’t know Arl yet, you should get to know her! She is a woman of many interests….one of them being cooking. Check out her Strawberry Bundt Cake with Cream Cheese Glaze! Yummy!! She also loves nature and photography. I loved this post of hers where she captured some great shots of animals!

Grateful for You!!

wonderful-team-member-readership-award

Up until last week I had never heard of this award….I tried to do some research on it, but couldn’t find anything that told me what the meaning behind it is. I am assuming it is similar to the Dragon’s Loyalty Award where you are grateful for those fellow bloggers you have really connected with, who stop by often and leave kind and encouraging comments . Those “team members” who help make your blog what it is.

How sweet of both Skd at Aromas and Flavors from My Kitchen and Aiswarya at My Kitchen Moments to present me with this lovely award!

Just the name of Skd’s blog makes my senses kick in and I can imagine the smell of cinnamon, lemon, garlic, chocolate, and butter! 🙂 Check out these Chicken Mini Tarts…imagine smelling the aroma of those as they baked! Yum!

And Aiswarya is one of my new bloggy friends who expands my food horizons! Look at her Kondakadalai Sundal…what an amazing sounding dish!

Thanks Skd and Aiswarya for this award! I feel encouraged!

Okay, onto the rules….I have to admit, I am kind of liking that they are simple:

  1. Just give the award to all the people you wish to (at least 14)
  2. Mention the person who gave it to you, and
  3. Don’t forget to include a picture of the Award.

To those I am giving this award to: I recognize some of you have already received this from someone else, but it is important for me to give it you nonetheless, because I want to say thank you! Thank you for being a part of my “team” here who encourages me, laughs with me, and enjoys my blog!  (And truly this list could go on, but I had to stop somewhere. 🙂 )

Again, thanks to each of you! In your own ways, you have been/are a blessing to me!

Liebster Award & Some Wonderful Fellow Bloggers to Check Out!

liebster awardI love the Liebster Award, because it is the very first award on here that I ever received…that was back when I didn’t even know there were awards. Awards in bloggy land?! Though I didn’t know what to think about them at first, these awards have been such an encouragement to me as I continue to grow in creating beauty in the kitchen! And they have been a neat way that I get to bless others as well, as I pass them on. That is always my favorite part!!

A big huge thank you to CRAFTEA HEART for passing this on to me! First of all, don’t you just love the creative name she gave her blog?! I love it! These are the words she uses to explain this wonderful name- ” Lover of craft, tea, and people’s heart (and the physical shape).  The heart shape became a passion because no matter what I was doing—cooking, hiking, photographing, working as a nurse—the heart shapes continued to land in my path.  I think Jesus was dropping me hints to learn to love myself.” She is a passionate woman who has a touching story! Please go visit her site, say hello, and get to know her!

Okay, so a little about the Liebster Award…it is a virtual award to welcome new bloggers to the community who has less than 1000 followers (Or 500 or 250….I have seen it so many different ways. 😀 ). LIEBSTER in german means sweetheart, beloved, darling.

Here are the rules for acceptance…

  1. LINK back to the person who nominated you
  2. SHARE 11 facts about yourself
  3. ANSWER 11 questions set by your nominator
  4. NOMINATE 11 people who you think deserves the Liebster Award
  5. ASK your nominees 11 questions to answer

AFTER YOU PUBLISH your Liebster post, go to your nominees blog and let them know you nominated them.

11 Facts about Myself….can I come up with 11 new facts?! Ummmm…Surely I can, right?! 🙂

  1. I have been spelunking one time in my life and had to crawl through this tight space for a long time (like an hour) called “The Birth Canal.” I remember pulling myself through cold, muddy water, little rocks tearing into me, not being able to move my head up because it would hit the top of the cave wall, my arms feeling so weak. It was quite an experience. I am pretty sure I wouldn’t have made it through without God’s grace and the kind person behind me, rubbing my ankles, comforting me, and singing songs to me.
  2. I have always loved playing football….my brothers taught me how to throw a spiral and catch the ball from a very young age.
  3. Apples to Apples is one of my favorite board games…especially played fast and competitively. 🙂
  4. I greatly disliked dark chocolate until I started cooking four months ago…now it is my chocolate of choice! Yum!
  5. I once licked up a plate full of Tabasco sauce to impress a guy….I don’t know if it really did impress him, but I might add, we are married! 😀 ❤
  6. I have been rock climbing (real for live-not in an indoor place) one time. The hardest part? Seeing spiders on the rocks and being so scared I was going to put my hand on one! Ugh!
  7. I greatly and I mean greatly dislike grape jelly….so does my brother. Yes, there is a story behind this. 😉
  8. I am not really a phone person (more an email, text, or in-person person)….there are only a few people I like to talk on the phone to. I am not totally sure why this is…
  9. I can read and write in Greek and Hebrew….maybe not as well as I used to though 🙂
  10. I love hip hop dance…no, I can’t do it.
  11. I love Downton Abbey!! Love, Love, Love!

The 11 Questions that CraftTeaHeart gave for me to answer

  1. Where would you travel to if you can pick up and go right now? I would travel to Canada to go see my best friend! 🙂 I haven’t seen her in over three years! Here we are in this pic below. This is when I still had braces, shorter hair, and was a little heavier. 🙂 Though I may not like what I look like in this picture :-), I love this picture because it does a great job of showing the special closeness we share. I can tell this woman anything, she listens deeply to me, she encourages me, she challenges me, and she is always here for me even in special little ways. For instance, she knew I was the speaker for a women’s luncheon at our church this weekend, and she called me right beforehand to check on me and see how I was doing. She does things like this all the time! Love you Kristin! Image
  2. Who is your role model and why? My husband. He was my role model 13 years ago when we were just friends, and almost 12 years into marriage he is still my role model. He has taught me so much about God’s love and grace! I love this man!! ❤ Here is one of my recent favorite photos of him, holding our friend’s child. The reason I love it so much is because the way you see him smiling and loving this child, is the way he loves others. He has such a big heart, he serves others well, and is the best listener I know! 🙂  Image
  3. What is your favorite recipe? Well, because I could eat it daily, I am still going to have to say My Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!
  4. What recipe or craft would you want to see on my blog? I would be happy to see any type of dessert…hehehe. Decoupage maybe. Do you do that? I have tried it once and it didn’t go well, but I really want to have a go at it again!
  5. What is a must read/watch book/movie on your list? Pride and Prejudice (the original version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle)
  6. Name two things on your bucket list. I honestly don’t have a bucket list.
  7. What is your favorite font and why? I use fonts a lot in my graphic arts and love them! One of my most favorites is the 2Peas series…                              Image                                                      I think I love them so much because they are so me. They are fun and spunky! 🙂
  8. List what you have learned so far via blogging. I have definitely learned more about different types of foods…you all have introduced me to so many things I have never heard of before! Some of these things I have already gotten to try and I have just loved them! I have also learned more about cooking and food photography, as I have continued to get in the kitchen and experiment.
  9. Which category has the most visits on your blog today? Looks like my “Home Page” “Archives”
  10. Do you collect anything?  If yes, what? One of the things I collect are socks… I particularly like warm, cozy, furry, fun socks! My mom knows this well and many of these have come from her! 🙂
  11. What is your favorite type of outfit? Tights, boots, tunic top, and a fun pair of earrings….that’s really what I wear most days. 🙂

Here is who I would like to give this award to:

May this award bring each of you much encouragement!

The 11 questions for my nominees:

  1. What is your favorite part of the day and why?
  2. How has your blog turned out different than you expected?
  3. Tell us something unique about yourself.
  4. Do you have a favorite t.v. show? What is it?
  5. Use three words to describe yourself.
  6. Who has influenced you the most and why?
  7. What is your favorite thing to do when you want to relax?
  8. What is your least favorite household chore?
  9. What inspires you?
  10. How do you want to be remembered?
  11. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind?

Grateful for Bloggers Who are Spreading Light….

butterfly-light-award

I was really honored when Joanna at Food Gurly gave me this award! It is always encouraging to receive one…it is a great affirmation to any of us bloggers and blesses us along the way. I love this particular award because of what it means….it means that you are spreading light in the blog world. That matters to me!

The actual story behind this award is that it was started by a blogger named Idiot Writer who wanted to thank a fellow blogger for helping her.

So Joanna, thanks for thinking I spread light in the blogosphere…I sure know you do! And if you didn’t give this to me, I would be giving it right back to you! 🙂  Please check out Joanna’s blog….she makes wonderful gluten free food and is such a sweet, encouraging woman!

As part of the rules for accepting this award, here is my paragraph on “How I’m Spreading Light”

Well first off, I hope I really am spreading light on here! 🙂 Joanna seems to think so, and for that I am grateful! My hope is that through my blog and through the interactions I have with others on here that people are experiencing kindness, care, encouragement, realness, and hope. People matter to me…so going to your blog and encouraging you is just as important to me as putting up a post on my own blog.  As a Christian, my desire is to show other people love, just as I have been so extravagantly loved by Jesus.

Here are the rules for the reward

1. You must write an acceptance post, making sure you link back to the blogger who awarded you and thank them. You may not lump this award in with other awards.

2. You must individually name and nominate a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 9999999 bloggers. You have to let them know either personally with a comment on their blog OR a pingback.

3. You must link back to IdiotWriter’s blog.

4. You must write a short paragraph – Entitled either “How I’m Spreading Light” OR “How I’m A Positive Influence”.

5. Display IdiotWriter’s lovely “Butterfly Light Award” badge on your blog.

Who I am giving this award to:

  • Nancy at Feasting with Friends– Nancy has brought much “light” my way, as I don’t doubt she has yours too (if you are a follower of her blog already.)  She is extremely sweet to visit her fellow foody bloggers and encourage them with the sweetest words. Honestly, what she writes in her comments to people always seems so thoughtful…she takes her time and shows her care for others!  I have noticed this time and time again…not just on my own blog, but on many of yours as well! Thank you Nancy for putting a smile on my face often! And her food? Delicious!
  • Jhuls at The Not So Creative Cook– I keep telling her that I love her sense of humor! And I truly mean it! Jhuls spreads lots of light with her fun whit and enthusiasm…she is always making me laugh, both on her blog posts and her comments to me. I love to laugh…thanks for bringing more laughter into my life Jhuls! And I have said this before, but the name of her blog doesn’t do her cooking justice…she IS very creative! 🙂

Loyalty is a Beautiful Thing

award-dragon-from-mark

A month ago now (sorry to be slow Joanna), Food Gurly (I just love the name of her blog…very cute and witty) nominated me for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. This is an award that says “thank you” to those who visit your blog often, like your posts, comment, etc. Joanna has definitely been one of those people for me since the very beginning of us coming across one another’s paths. Thanks Joanna! This “food gurly” is great! Stop by and say hello…she would love it!

Instead of nominating all of you again who I did the first time around for this award (I do so appreciate each one of you), I thought I would take this chance to nominate a few bloggers who have rather recently found my blog, stop by often, leave encouraging words, etc.

Thank you….each one of you…having you stop by, like my posts, and comment has brought much encouragement my way!

Please do get to know these ladies and their blogs, if you haven’t already!

As part of the rules of this award, here are 7 facts about me (that you haven’t already heard…I hope 😉 ):

  1. Okay, so you already know about my graphic art and I have mentioned that I love doing animation, but you haven’t actually gotten to see that yet. So here are some of the things I have animated. I always love the challenge of creating something really fun and difficult! 🙂 I drew the first three myself and did the animation of course. The others I did the animation on and combined different graphic elements and maybe drew parts of them. Hope you enjoy these!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    LoriDroppinInLil LoriSmallerwormLilLoriAnimalsAtTheCrossLil LoriCatsAtPlay2Lil  LoriEarlEBirdLil LoriPoppingInLil LoriSneakAttackLil LoriSummerBeachRide2Lil
  2. Boots…I love them! I could wear them year round and am fortunate to live in a place where I can do just that…most days!
  3. Our cat is spoiled…she sleeps on a pillow three king sized pillows stacked high above my head in bed. It is a good thing we have a California King bed! 😀
  4. My hubby smeared cake on my face, in my hair, and in my ear on our wedding day…I tried to do it back to him but he was super smooth and swiped all the frosting off of the piece I got! Hahaha! I loved it! I would have been so disappointed if he just calmly let me bite into the cake! 🙂 He knows me so well!                                 Us
  5. I have a phobia of spiders….daddy long legs are the worst! (Yes, I know they are harmless…but I don’t appreciate a large hand sized spider who likes to sit on your face….yes, this has happened to me.)
  6. When my hubby and I were leaving for our honeymoon, one of the people who worked at the airport came up to my husband and asked him if I was the unattended minor traveling by herself… LOL! Really?!
  7. I am very expressive…when I get excited (even in public) I have been known to jump up and down and squeal! 😀
